ah! the horror!
finally back from a very blog-worthy escapade at elephant and castle with huifang. (yes, elephant and castle is the name of a place in London.) Reminds me of "Harold and Kumar and the white castle)
we bought plates, bowls, cups, pots, chopping boards, knives, groceries from woolworths and tescos and lugged all of it back to Bankside. On the way back, we first went to the rail station instead of the tube station. And when we finally realised that we were at the wrong kind of station, we took the tube from the wrong platform so we ended up having to re-route to get home! (i guess the word "home" can be used now). Finally arrived in bankside shortly past seven, our backs and arms sore and tired. Should have brought my Salomon backpack out. argh.
listening to internet radio now because i didn't bring an FM receiver. there are too many stations to choose from, but nothing that suits what i want. listening to really sad love songs off this station called "love on the rocks" from www.launch.com. quite funny.
went to oxford street today and there too many shops to even finish seeing in a month. Fortunately mom isn't here. Top shop fans will go crazy. will head back tomorrow to get some clothes.

it'a a miracle! we managed to cook a full meal without setting off the smoke alarm. Anyhow, even if the alarm did go off, only three people out of our group of 8 people colonising the kitchen lived on the fourth floor so the rest wouldn't get fined! haha how scheming.
anyway, everyone in the hall is starting to settle down and get comfortable. just today someone on the fourth floor was blasting Boyz II Men inside the dorm, and the hall is starting to smell of burnt food from unsuccessful cooking experiments.
will attempt to rearrange the furniture in the room. haha. the room is a mess and there's tons of brochures from fresher's fair lying around.
Songs of the day:
Wheel - John Mayer
Better Together - Jack Johnson

went down to Hyde Park today for ultimate frisbee and captain's ball. The air is cool so you don't sweat here and you don't tire so easily. Saw lots of squirrels running about. Shall go down again some day to explore and jog. the park is a softballer's dream come true. vast expanses of lush green carpet grass... and beautiful fountains and flowers. All it lacks is close friends to share it with. :(
anyhow, i still have not gotten my plates and cups. i have discovered that the nearest IKEA is all the way in zone 5 (ie. very far away and very expensive to get there) and everything else in london is way too pricey and unattractive. shall pop by IKEA this weekend hopefully. in the meantime, i am drinking out of a disposable plastic cup which i had cleverly taken back with me after the wine party yesterday. haha
choosing courses is tough.. everything seems so interesting. gah.
i have decided to introduce a little song section for people like jiamin and fuzzy. tried to listen to Class 95 FM over the internet but the live feed keeps on getting cut off. guess i won't be catching "back to the old school" for a long long while then.
Songs of the day:
Burn for You - John Farnham
Landing in London - 3 Doors Down

arrived safely in london on a drizzly Sunday morning. fortunately, the weather cleared up by afternoon and we managed to do some shopping. had a wonderful plan to put up "before" and "after" pictures of my room on the blog, but i shall spare everyone the horror, because the "before" of my room seems to look much nicer and more colourful than the "after". as shafa mentioned, the new bedsheets make the room look more like a jail cell. Haha. So much for the IKEA bedsheets.
Monday and tuesday were used for shopping and more shopping, and also to register at the university. LSE (the building on the right in the picture) is a 20-30 minute walk from the hall, and the walk takes us across blackfriars bridge and along the embankment along the River Thames. When you walk along the embankment on a sunny day, i'm always tempted to go jogging along the embankment like i used to do at Marina Bay back in Singapore. That will have to wait till huifang's track pants and shoes finally arrive after being lost in limbo somewhere along the DHL air route.
This week has been so starkly different from the last.
Things i've been missing over here include long runs, late suppers, the company at work, trainings, ice creams and pratas with the thomson gang, long quiet walks through the neighbourhood in the middle of the night, and speaking Singlish without feeling weird. However, the week has also been interesting and enriching. New sights and sounds, new friends, a new way of living. Would love to capture the all wonderful sights on camera but quite paiseh to be too touristy. Haha. Anyway soccer fans ought to be jealous because we watch the epl and champions league here at night instead of in the early morning in Singapore.
Emailing everyone at night has been quite enjoyable. Because of the time difference, i will always receive the replies when I wake up the next morning. That serves as a wonderful incentive to get out of bed.

we are all bored now. me, huishan, huifang and shafa (shafa is angry that i'm putting her name last) are hanging around in my room after a wine party with horrible wine. huifang just ate laura's ma ti su..(Alert laura!!) and complains that it should be tau sar piah instead. i am hunched over my bedside table cos the ethernet port is too far away from the study table. darn. :(
we are all sleepy now because it is 4.34 am in Singapore though it is 9.34pm in london. its probably because of the long long walk we took to find argos to buy stuff for our rooms but didn't buy anything in the end. (where is IKEA?!?) anyway argos is a store with nothing inside but catalogues for you to choose what you want.
pigging out on the royce chocolates from ms ong now. hahaha.
