its the queen's birthday! oh man looking at pictures of her birthday just makes you jealous, not that i want everyone to celebrate mine, just that she looks so happy, especially for her age. ahh.. the look in her eyes and her smile say so much about how happy she is. She's really aging with grace, saved from a lot of bread and butter concerns most other older people are concerned with.
and all the grand presents, and people knowing what you like, the whole world going all out to make sure you enjoy yourself etc etc, makes me so sad that i can't do the same for my grandma even though i'd be absolutely willing to put my life on the line for her. maybe cos she's a more private person, and wouldn't openly share with you what she thinks is nice or what she thinks sucks. and the language barrier too (kay shall avoid the whole " i think non-english speaking old people are being marginalised" argument for today). though i can understand her, i guess both of us have fairly conversational and unsophisticated chinese vocab and we can't convey precise meanings and feelings. i think people who speak the same main language with their grandparents and people who don't have very different relationships... hmm oh well, not like i tell her my personal likes and dislikes as well. i just like being the nice and filial grandchild, distant but there when you need help.
haha speaking of birthdays.. it was good. nice and quiet, the way i like it. a day just to yourself to take stock and be pensive for a while before the world grabs you by the horns again.
